The first ever SPVS Scubascene week, which saw over 30 delegates enjoy CPD combined with diving, has proved to be so popular that the society has already received several pre-bookings for next year's event.

Five days of diving at Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh was combined with 16 hours of quality CPD on orthopaedics, including fracture planning presented by Malcolm Ness, BVetMed DipECVS CertSAO FRCVS. Other subjects included the provocatively titled 'So You Think You Know How to Run a Business?' on how to assess whether to buy a practice - a four-hour series of lectures presented by Simon Robinson, senior business manager at LloydsTSB.

SPVS junior vice-president, Jacqui Molyneux, also delivered a short presentation on canine rehabilitation. Five delegates completed their beginner's PADI Open Water Diver course, including 68-year-old Roger Clarke, while four people completed their PADI Advanced Diver course, which featured a challenging but thrilling night dive.

Three participants completed PADI Digital Underwater Photography courses while another achieved success in his PADI Rescue course.

Next year's Scubascene will be held between July 6-13 aboard the luxurious boat, Typhoon, complete with its own restaurant, entertainment room and diving deck. CPD subjects will include veterinary endoscopy and endosurgery by Phillip Lhermette, BVetMed, BSc, CBiol, MI Biol, MRCVS and 'Making the Most of your Practice Manager' by Rebekka Fiorani.
