New horseshoes

EponaShoes

The EponaShoe is a range of horseshoes that makes use of three types of polymer to create a highly flexible shoe. It was designed and developed in the USA, and trialled on 40 different horses over a five-year period, before being put on to the market. During this time an extensive amount of data were recorded and measured, and according to the manufacturers, the science and research behind the development of the EponaShoe make it one of the most revolutionary horseshoes on the market today.

There is generally no problem transitioning to a flexible shoe, and results and differences are usually noticeable in a very short space of time. They also have many remedial uses, including heel pain, flat soles, navicular, ringbone and laminitis and founder.

The shoes can be nailed on, glued on, or a combination of both, and are very easy to fit with no special tools required. The horse's foot can also be packed before the shoe is applied with a breathable support material, thus supporting the sole and frog - this allows the whole foot to bear weight and function properly.

The shoes will retail at about £20-£25 and are available with options of carbide tips and/or stud holes, and the shoeing cycle is the same as for conventional metal shoes.
